Introduction
BP Sah is a prominent Nepali political leader, independent journalist, and social justice advocate. With a career rooted in grassroots activism and media, he has emerged as a dynamic force in Nepal’s democratic transition and Madhesi rights movement. Sah is the founder of Madhesh Mahasabha, a broad-based socio-political platform working for identity, dignity, and justice of the Madhesi people. He currently serves as the National Secretary of the Janamat Party, one of Nepal’s seven nationally recognized political parties.
Early Life and Education
Born in a middle-class farming family in the Terai-Madhesh of Nepal, Sah experienced systemic discrimination and socio-political marginalization from an early age. These lived realities shaped his ideological foundation and commitment to justice.
He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and is currently pursuing M.Phil/PhD at the Central Department of Political Science, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. His academic focus aligns closely with his field experience in federalism, inclusion, and social movements.

Journalism and Media Advocacy
BP Sah began his journalism career in 2008 in Janakpurdham, the cultural and political hub of Madhesh. His reporting, both fearless and community-centered, quickly gained national attention. He has contributed to national and international media outlets, including Radio Nepal.
In 2014, he founded Hulaki News (www.hulakinews.com), the first digital news portal based in Madhesh, which played a vital role during the Madhesh Movements by amplifying marginalized voices and countering dominant media narratives.
He also served as a member of Nepal’s High-Level Media Inclusion Commission, contributing to the formulation of inclusive media policy and advocating for the representation of underrepresented communities in media.

Policy Advocacy and Legislative Reform
In response to restrictive provisions in the Province 2 Communication Policy, Sah led a public movement defending press freedom. Under his leadership, the movement unified journalists, youth, and civil society actors, leading to a successful policy revision—marking a significant victory for freedom of expression within Nepal’s federal framework.
Media Literacy and Youth Empowerment
BP Sah is also a committed educator and mentor. He has trained over 570 young people across Madhesh in digital journalism, civic education, and community-based media. His workshops are specifically designed to empower youth from marginalized communities to become informed and articulate change-makers.
Human Rights and Social Justice Advocacy
Sah has long championed the rights of Madhesis, Tharus, Dalits, and other excluded groups. He was arrested on November 26, 2015, in Kathmandu while participating in a peaceful protest during the Madhesh Movement—an act reflecting his unwavering commitment to nonviolent civil resistance.
His humanitarian efforts include organizing medical camps, disaster relief programs, and assisting stranded migrant workers abroad. His work bridges the gap between state institutions and historically excluded communities through media, service, and mobilization.

Founder and Leader: Madhesh Mahasabha
In 2025, BP Sah founded the Madhesh Mahasabha, an inclusive rights-based platform committed to unifying diverse Madhesi voices—across caste, class, profession, and geography. The Mahasabha serves as both a grassroots movement and a potential electoral alternative in Nepal.
Core Objectives of Madhesh Mahasabha:
Proportional representation and federal restructuring
